Dorothy Lourine, 91, of Houston, TX passed away January 2, 2018. She was born in Bartlett, TX on January 8, 1926. Dorothy graduated from St James Parochial School in Port Arthur, TX, May 1943. She graduated from University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree, May 1968.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Elver DC Cox, December 18.1943.

Dorothy and DC worked for the railroad in Port Arthur. Dorothy was a crackerjack typist. DC was inducted into the Army July 6, 1944 and Dorothy went with him to basic training...

Dorothy Lourine, 91, of Houston, TX passed away January 2, 2018. She was born in Bartlett, TX on January 8, 1926. Dorothy graduated from St James Parochial School in Port Arthur, TX, May 1943. She graduated from University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree, May 1968.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Elver DC Cox, December 18.1943.

Dorothy and DC worked for the railroad in Port Arthur. Dorothy was a crackerjack typist. DC was inducted into the Army July 6, 1944 and Dorothy went with him to basic training at Fort Francis E Warren, Wyoming. When DC was transferred to the 737th Railroad Battalion in Luzon, Philippines, Dorothy returned to Houston to wait for his return.

Dorothy worked as a homemaker and Mom until she enrolled in the University of Houston in 1962. When she graduated from the University of Houston and received her Teacher's Certificate she began teaching 1st grade at Oak Forest Elementary School. She and DC brought the Hobby Hut in 1971. Dorothy operated the store for 33 years and was joined by DC when he retired from Texaco. They loved those years together serving their customers.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years of marriage. She is survived by three children, Tim Cox, Gayle Smith and Tammy Ganze, four grandchildren, Amy Diodati, Clayton Smith, Amanda Phillips and Abby Ganze and six great grandchildren and her sweet toy poodle Chico.

A special thanks to Olivia Campos, Rosa, Michelle, Melissa and Joe with Campos In-Home Healthcare for their kindness and compassion during the last years of her life.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11AM in the Chapel of Houston National Cemetery and inurnment to follow.
